Snowday, Schmoday
We got the unexpected surprise of a snow flurry in East Texas. It was a Christmas miracle. Several weeks late, albeit, but it still happened, answering the fervently faithful and ever patient prayers of many boys and girls.
I don’t have anything pithy to say, or a long psychological evaluation of people and their behaviors before, during and after such a storm, other than it was nice. Really nice.
All prior appointments and engagements were canceled, the roads were closed, the stores were closed. The city was closed.
So we had to stay home.
Because of this, I got to watch my kids sparkly smiles as they mashed the skiff of snow into a pasty muck in the yard. I got to listen to their delighted giggles as they threw handfuls of powder at each other and attempted to roll a snowman.
The snow angels. The curious experiments with chunks of ice, dropped into the water collecting in pools at the end of the driveway. The side-wise slides. The twirling.
Then to go inside the warm house, peeling off layers of wet clothes, puddles dripping in the laundry room. Rosy cheeks and runny noses. Excitedly waiting for bowls of warm buttery popcorn and hot chocolate to be enjoyed on piles of blankets in the living room while watching Winnie the Pooh.
Oh the beautiful moments that can be collected! Stop, look and enjoy the beauty in the storms.

January 18, 2018 at 6:39 amIt was pretty unexpected! I know Florida has been experiencing much colder than normal weather. Not enough to snow though!

January 19, 2018 at 8:56 amBeing from Missouri, those are the moments we live for each winter. We have not had many in the past few years but we are making up for them this year. Glad the rest of the country is getting to share in those moments too!
