One of the top perks of being nomadic is that we are always in the part of the country that is experiencing stranger than normal weather. This phenomenon tints my already exciting existence with an added layer of danger and intrigue.

Will we blow away? Or will we just suddenly tip over? Will we catch on fire? Will we die, albeit peacefully, of carbon monoxide poisoning? Will the slide motors fail? Will *this* be the time I wet my pants because the slide motors fail? (You can only reach the bathrooms if you slide some slides…..) Will we freeze? Will we flood? Will the fifth wheel break in half, from bouncing over these horrible Chicagoland potholes? Will we blow up????

These are the thoughts of a fairly (Mike Honcho might say extremely) paranoid nomadic mother, who is adjusting and dancing with the new challenges of each and every day.

Most recently, I can proudly say I am a survivor of “THE POLAR VORTEX 2019.” What an accomplishment! Not only did I survive it, but I survived it in the bandy walls of our fifth wheel.

It is not for the faint of heart.

It is not for the easily bored.

It is not for the thin sinewed and feeble minded.

Thank goodness, I am none of those. I’m just fairly (extremely) paranoid.

Anyway, we happened to be in central Indiana during this particular storm of a century and we hunkered down. Extra dog food, extra toilet paper, extra water, extra propane…we were ready…

…and we survived. With lots of books, and lots of snuggles. A good movie or two and some warm, drippy popcorn. We survived with some homemade valentines for the grandparents, and some raucous rounds of Go Fish. Endless rounds of hot chocolate, sticky sweet rolls and lovely bowls of aromatic sweet chili straight from the crock pot.

Yep, I say we did all right.

Sometimes its nice to be forced to stay at home and just “survive.”

Oh, My! I can’t imagine doing the RV in weather that cold, but you’ve made it sound tempting! We’ve been in the ‘teens before with only an 8-inch blizzard (the Grand Canyon last year). We did the same–made it as cozy as possible. Glad you survived! It’s a memory to be relived, that’s for sure! Safe travels. Dawn

My glittering generalizations worked then! We certainly made the best of it, but I am not sure I will gladly do it again. Afterwards, both Mike Honcho and I looked a each other and wondered aloud why we weren’t in Southern California still 🙂
